THE
"BLONDE'S SECRET WEAPON" PERSUASION TECHNIQUE:
In cases where your prospect feels as though they are an expert

This
Is Your Brain Under Hypnosis
By
Sandra Blakeslee
The New York Times
Hypnosis,
with its long and checkered history in medicine and entertainment,
is receiving some new respect from neuroscientists. Recent
brain studies of people who are susceptible to suggestion
indicate that when they act on the suggestions their brains
show profound changes in how they process information. The
suggestions, researchers report, literally change what people
see, hear, feel and believe to be true.
The
new experiments, which used brain imaging, found that people
who were hypnotized "saw" colors where there were
none. Others lost the ability to make simple decisions. Some
people looked at common English words and thought that they
were gibberish.
"The
idea that perceptions can be manipulated by expectations"
is fundamental to the study of cognition, said Michael I.
Posner, an emeritus professor of neuroscience at the University
of Oregon and expert on attention. "But now we're really
getting at the mechanisms."
Even
with little understanding of how it works, hypnosis has been
used in medicine since the 1950's to treat pain and, more
recently, as a treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma,
irritable bowel syndrome and eating disorders.
There
is, however, still disagreement about what exactly the hypnotic
state is or, indeed, whether it is anything more than an effort
to please the hypnotist or a natural form of extreme concentration
where people become oblivious to their surroundings while
lost in thought.
Hypnosis
had a false start in the 18th century when a German physician,
Dr. Franz Mesmer, devised a miraculous cure for people suffering
all manner of unexplained medical problems. Amid dim lights
and ethereal music played on a glass harmonica, he infused
them with an invisible "magnetic fluid" that only
he was able to muster. Thus mesmerized, clients were cured.
Although
Dr. Mesmer was eventually discredited, he was the first person
to show that the mind could be manipulated by suggestion to
affect the body, historians say. This central finding was
resurrected by Dr. James Braid, an English ophthalmologist
who in 1842 coined the word hypnosis after the Greek word
for sleep.

Hypnosis
Can Work Wonders
The
Dallas Morning News
Hypnosis has caught on as a weapon in the battle of
the bulge - and various vices. And mental health experts
say it's drawing dieters to their doorsteps.
"I
get more referrals from physicians than ever for habits
like tobacco-use cessation, weight control, nail-biting
and others," said Dr. Douglas Bellamy, 64, a psychologist
in Texas who has practiced hypnosis since the early
1980s.
"Hypnosis
is becoming more recognized as an important technique
in the treatment of many medical and psychological conditions."
In
turn, health professionals - from doctors to psychologists,
dentists, social workers and nurses - are availing themselves
of training through the American Society of Clinical
Hypnosis, which has about 2,300 members.
"Based
on the traffic on our Web-based referral database, the
number of people seeking a practitioner who will use
clinical hypnosis in their treatment is increasing,"
said a spokeswoman for the society, based in the Chicago
area.
Smoking
cessation, labor and delivery, and weight loss generate
the most interest. But requests also stream in from
people with phobias or chronic pain, cancer patients
and those dealing with mental health issues.
Statistics
indicate that 65 percent of U.S. adults age 20 and older
are overweight or obese. And more will be heading in
this direction, cautions the American Obesity Association.
In
counseling compulsive eaters, Dallas psychologist Dr.
Harold Crasilneck "does an age regression,"
said his wife, Sherry, who assists with research and
his private practice.
"He
goes back in time and space in their lives," asking
them to raise their thumb when they reach the point
of onset, she said. Then they recall what happened to
bring on the binging.
As
the demand for hypnosis has mushroomed the last few
years, Crasilneck has been "snowed with people
who come to see him," his wife said.
Many
come to Crasilneck because of his expertise with burn
victims. One patient, battling excruciating migraines,
journeyed recently from Australia to consult the 84-year-old
practitioner, who has sworn by hypnosis since 1953.
He
also travels to train the burgeoning number of health
professionals interested in the technique.
"The
single most important thing in the use of hypnosis is
the patient's unconscious motivation," said Crasilneck,
clinical professor of psychiatry, anesthesiology and
psychology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
School at Dallas.
"If
that motivation isn't there, it's not going to work."
But
when it is, experts say, hypnosis can work wonders.

into feelings of joy, love, appreciation or gratitude,
and focus on bringing more of that into your life, you
are going to avoid the negative stuff automatically.
So
here's a tool to add to your spiritual, survivalist toolbox:
Find something to be happy about every day, and every

How
Agatha Christie Hypnotized Her Readers
Scientists claim to have cracked the secret behind the
success of all-time best-selling novelist Agatha Christie.
They believe the Devon born writer used a technique which
made her books almost impossible to put down.
Scientists
believe Torquay born novelist Agatha Christie used words
that invoked a chemical response in readers that made
her books "literally unputdownable".
A
neurolinguistic study of more than 80 of her novels concluded
that her phrases trigger a pleasure response which cause
people to seek them out again and again.
According
to the study Christie used literary techniques mirroring
those employed by hypnotherapists and psychologists, which
have a mesmeric effect on readers.
"Christie's
language patterns stimulate higher than usual activity
in the brain," Dr Roland Kapferer said. Her
grandson Mathew Prichard told The Times: "It's not
really a mystery. She was simply a writer of great plots."
The
Agatha Project study was carried out by scientists from
universities in London, Birmingham and Warwick for an
ITV1 documentary. It involved loading Christie's novels
onto a computer and analysing her words, sentences and
phrases.
It
might finally explain the enduring popularity of the late
author, who created detectives Miss Marple and Hercule
Poirot and wrote novels such as Murder on the Orient Express.
The
team found that common phrases used by Christie acted
as a trigger to raise levels of serotonin and endorphins,
the chemical messengers in the brain that induce pleasure
and satisfaction.
These
phrases included "can you keep an eye on this",
"more or less", "a day or two" and
"something like that". "The
release of these neurological opiates makes Christie's
writing literally unputdownable," Dr Kapferer said.
Christie
was also found to have used a very limited vocabulary.
"It means that readers aren't distracted and so they
concentrate more on the clues and the plots," said
Dr Pernilla Danielsson of Birmingham University.
They
also found that Christie frequently used dashes to create
"a faster-paced, unreflective narrative". Christie
is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the best-selling
author of all time and attributed with selling two billion
books worldwide.
Dr
Kapferer said: "Our next step is to seek to replicate
these experiments with other leading authors to discover
whether their writings cause similar neurological activity
among readers."

Dream
Incantation Attracts Harem
By
Leo Lewis, Times Online
An aging and unprepossesing Tokyo fortune teller who kept
a harem of ten women in their twenties for years may have
used hypnosis to hold them in his thrall.
Police
searching the three-storey home where Hirohito Shibuya,
57, kept the women say that they discovered how-to
guides on group hypnosis and believe that he used other
mind-control techniques under the guise of fortune telling.
Mr
Shibuya, who was arrested last week on suspicion of threatening
to turn one of his harem members into mincemeat if she
left, went to extraordinary lengths to avoid breaching
polygamy laws.
Japanese
records show that he was married twelve times to ten women
between 1999 and August 2004. He divorced one woman and
married another in the same day eight times.
Although
its illegal in Japan, Im virtually a polygamist,
he said. I contacted my ward office, and officials
there said it was not illegal to repeatedly marry and
divorce, although they did say it was unprecedented.
Mr
Shibuya somehow managed to keep all his former wives under
the same roof. He said that they all worked in shops while
he stayed at home avoiding strenuous work because of a
heart condition.
Although
psychologists say it is possible that Mr Shibuya used
hypnosis
to secure his harems loyalty, he claims that he
learnt in a dream of a magic love charm. He
has refused to share it with the world, but says that
if you chant it, even unattractive men find themselves
popular with women.

The
"Blonde's Secret Weapon" Persuasion Technique
By
Alan Tutt
Creator of "Keys
to Power Persuasion"
Power
Persuasion is about taking advantage of the natural
ways in which people think and letting your prospect
persuade themselves.
One
of the secrets of power persuasion is that people don't
always think everything through as thoroughly as they
should. In many cases, we use "rules of thumb",
which are called "judgmental heuristics" in
psychology.
These are usually reliable and will normally point us
in the right direction with a minimum amount of investigation.
One
of the judgmental heuristics that many people have is
that women with blonde colored hair are 1) more fun,
and 2) less intelligent. As with many judgmental heuristics,
the truth doesn't always match with the rule.
Somewhere
along the line, however, intelligent blondes found that
the impression could be used effectively to their benefit,
and they developed a persuasion technique that is quite
impressive.
In
order to maintain the illusion of ignorance, these gifted
persuaders discovered that they could ask as many questions
as it took to get their prospect to come up with the
right answer. Then once the right answer was spoken
by their prospect, they would simply say something along
the lines of "Wow, you are so smart. I would have
never thought of that."
Unfortunately
for us mere mortals, this technique actually requires
a lot of intelligence to pull off well. You really have
to understand human psychology and logic in order to
direct your questions to pull out the right answers
from your prospect and not give yourself away.
Leading
questions are a subject unto themselves, and I cover
them in some depth in the Keys
To Power Persuasion course. For now, understand
that one of the easiest ways to lead your prospect through
the use of questions is to suggest the answer within
the question itself.
Here
are a couple of examples:
"Of
course, I know nothing about this, but what would happen
if you turned those knobs? Is there one of those controls
that might help in this situation?"
"All
I know about cars is that you have to put gas in them
once in a while. But I once heard someone talk about
a gizmo called a 'differential' or some such. Is it
possible that something like that could be the problem
here?"
"You
say that one of the things that slow down a computer
is the connection between its memory and the processor,
whatever that is. Would it be possible for someone to
build them together, on the same chip or something?
Would that make them go faster?"
There
are 4 general rules to using questions to lead your
prospect.
1.
Ask each question in a way that is interesting to your
prospect, so that they remain involved in the process.
2.
Ask each question based on what your prospect already
understands.
3.
Ask each question to focus your prospect's mind in the
intended direction, one step closer to the desired information.
4.
Ask each question in a way that suggests the answer
your prospect should give.
In
cases where your prospect feels as though they are an
expert in the subject under discussion, it can sometimes
pay off handsomely to let them think that they know
more about the subject than you do. Playing to a person's
ego can oftentimes make them want to do more for you
than upsetting their self-image of superiority.
Just
ask any smart blonde.

The
Definitive Hypnosis Cheat Sheet
A Complete Induction Script for Hypnotizing
Anyone
This
cheat sheet was originally put together by professional
hypnotherapist, and former stage hypnotist, Steven Hall
MCOH MASC NLP. Its purpose is to reveal the secrets of
hypnosis, making it accessible to everyone.
These techniques will work for stage hypnosis or hypnotherapy,
however, they are taught here for information purposes
only. After reading this article you will have the knowledge
and ability necessary to hypnotize people, but please
do not practice hypnosis without first undergoing more
intensive study. Click
here for more details.
Lesson One: Hypnosis is natural
The first thing you need to know is that hypnosis is a
very natural state. It requires no special power to hypnotize
someone. If you can talk you can hypnotize.
In fact, it is such a natural state that people go into
hypnosis regularly without even realizing it. The most
common natural states occur while gazing into a fire or
when driving (its that moment when you suddenly
realize that you are unsure as to which route you have
just driven home!) If you were to listen to some positive
suggestions while in these naturally occurring trance
states they would have an effect on you
so be aware
of commercial radio on long journeys!
When you intentionally hypnotize someone what you are
doing is operating the switch that puts them into this
natural state at a time of your (and their) choosing,
so that you can use it productively.
Lesson Two: Relaxation causes trance
There are many things that have been found to cause trance,
these include confusion, shock, repetition, focused attention
and relaxation. For
the purposes of your studies we are going to be concentrating
on relaxation, as it is the easiest to produce without
offending your client.
We will also be using focused attention as this will help
to stop your clients mind from wandering during the induction
process.
The initial induction process is all about getting the
client to relax, and, as
many people have completely forgotten how to do this,
you do need to help them out a little; most people are
a lot tenser than they realize.
Lesson Three: Relaxing the client
Before you actually begin the hypnotic process it is a
good idea to have your client do a few physical relaxation
exercises. This will put them in a much more responsive
state during the actual induction and save you a great
deal of time.
The easiest and most effective way to do this is to have
them tense and relax their muscles. Start with the face,
by having them screw it up nice and tight, hold it for
a few seconds and then relax. Next have them scrunch up
their shoulders, hold them relax. Move on to arms, torso,
stomach area, upper (then lower) legs and finally feet.
When tensing the legs and feet be sure to tell your client
to pull their toes and feet up towards the body rather
than pointing them out straight as this could cause cramp.
You should also tell your client that if tensing a certain
area might be unwise due to health problems, then they
can simply skip that area. An example might be someone
who has suffered with a hernia.
Once you have systematically tensed and relaxed each area
have them tense and relax their entire body in one go.
This simple exercise will release a lot of tension and
set them up nicely for the induction process.
