WE WILL ALL BE TELEPATHIC IN 25 YEARS: Some experts in fact
believe techno-enabled telepathy will become the sole or at
least the primary form of human communication in the future
and everybody will make use of it for economic and social reasons
once it becomes available to all.
NEURAL
PATHWAYS TO ENLIGHTENMENT: "Neuroscientists are now
doing bolder and bolder things," Watson says. "We've
already seen studies into the neurology of things like love,
thirst and hunger, so it wasn't a big step for them to start
wondering about these religious and quasi-religious experiences."
MIND
TRICKS HELP DIETERS LOSE WEIGHT: A team led by psychologist
Elizabeth Loftus of the University of California, Irvine, found
that it could persuade people to avoid fattening foods by implanting
unpleasant childhood memories about the food even though
the event never happened.
DIET
AND EXERCISE ARE USELESS WITHOUT MIND POWER: It doesn't
matter how much you know about nutrition or exercise. Until
specialized fitness knowledge is linked with goals and directions,
the knowledge is useless and you won't accomplish very much
or keep the changes long term.
We
Will All Be Telepathic in 25 Years
By

Does
telepathy exist? The majority of mainstream scientists believe
that the paranormal acquisition of information concerning
the thoughts, feelings or activity of another person is
a lot of poppycock.
But
it doesn't really matter because the majority of mainstream
scientists also believe telepathy's going to exist in the
future, thanks to technology.
According
to one World Future Society forecast, wireless technology
will be incorporated into our thought processing by 2030.
In
the next 25 years, we'll learn how to augment our 100 trillion
relatively slow inter-neuronal connections with high-speed
virtual connections via nanorobotics.
This
will allow us to greatly boost our pattern-recognition abilities,
memories, and overall thinking capacity, as well as to directly
interface with powerful forms of computer intelligence and
with each other.
Which
means we'll also be able to move beyond the brain's present
performance capacity. Researchers have already demonstrated
that with the help of wired implants it's possible for a
person to move a cursor on a computer screen just by thinking
about it.
How long before such developments become non-invasive and
wireless and the inter-face involves two or more human beings
communicating by thought alone?
Instead
of telepathy, they're calling it "techlepathy"
and, initially, first generation devices will be unidirectional.
That
is, the neural patterns of unspoken words would be transmitted
to the other person before receiving the other person's
transmission in return, much like how walkie-talkies work.
Later,
the pre-speech thought patterns themselves would be transmitted.
Ultimately, the transference will become seamlessly bi-directional
and would include other non-verbal signals such as consciousness
and emotions.
By
then it could also involve one or more persons or, indeed,
as many as possible like an Internet of connected minds.
Some
experts in fact believe techno-enabled telepathy will become
the sole or at least the primary form of human communication
in the future and everybody will make use of it for economic
and social reasons once it becomes available to all.
Also,
being technology driven and not some spooky psychic phenomenon,
privacy issues would not be a problem as personal firewalls
could be created to restrict any unwanted intrusion.
Yes,
there'll be hackers going in-mind from time to time and
mind-bloggers going openly public but, in general, techlepathy
should be as safe as having a mobile phone inside one's
head.
Neural
Pathways to Enlightenment
Researchers
are exploring the science behind mystical experiences.
By
Stephen Pincock

Age
They're
among the most personal and mysterious sensations
we might encounter - a vision of blinding light
as death draws near, the ecstasy of prayer or
meditation or the sensation of floating outside
our own bodies.
For
millenniums, people have given these experiences
religious significance. But in recent years,
scientists have begun exploring this spiritual
realm, asking their own questions about what
goes on in our brains during these extraordinary
events and coming up with some fascinating answers.
In
laboratories around the world, a few specialists
have had their own insights into the neurology
of spiritual experiences, using precise techniques
to stimulate and monitor the brain's function.
These
new studies delve into questions that have long
fascinated scientists, says John Watson, a neurologist
at the University of Sydney.
"Neuroscientists
are now doing bolder and bolder things,"
Watson says. "We've already seen studies
into the neurology of things like love, thirst
and hunger, so it wasn't a big step for them
to start wondering about these religious and
quasi-religious experiences."
Some
people call this new field "neurotheology",
a term coined by Aldous Huxley in his 1962 novel
Island. Scientists often refer to it as the
cognitive neuroscience of religious experience
and spirituality.
In
1997, researchers from the University of California
in San Diego announced there might be dedicated
neural machinery in the brain's temporal lobes
specifically linked with religion. Vilayanur
Ramachandran and his team studied the brains
of people with an unusual type of epilepsy that
affects the brain's temporal lobes.
People
who suffer this kind of seizure often report
having intense mystical and religious experiences
as part of their attacks. The researchers found
that one effect of the seizures was to strengthen
the involuntary response of the patient's brain
to religious words.
It
wasn't long before these regions were being
referred to by newspapers as the "God spot"
or "God module" - areas of the brain
that become electrically excited when people
think about their deity.

Mind Tricks Help Dieters Lose Weight
By
Rosie Mestel
Source: Los Angeles Times
In
their battle against the bulge, desperate
dieters have tried drugs, surgery, exercise,
counseling, creams and even electrical
fat-burning belts.
Now
some psychologists have a new idea: Lying.
A
team led by psychologist Elizabeth Loftus
of the University of California, Irvine,
found that it could persuade people to
avoid fattening foods by implanting unpleasant
childhood memories about the food
even though the event never happened.
In
a paper published in Tuesday's edition
of the Proceedings of the National Academy
of Sciences, the team said it successfully
turned people off strawberry ice cream
and, in earlier studies, it has done the
same with pickles and hard-boiled eggs
in each case, by manipulating the
subjects to believe the foods made them
sick when they were children.
The
scientists say they also have successfully
implanted positive opinions about asparagus
by convincing subjects that they once
loved the vegetable.
The
method, if perfected, could induce people
to eat less of what they shouldn't and
more of what they should, Loftus said.

Diet and Exercise are Useless Without Mind Power
By Tom Venuto
Author
of Burn
the Fat, Feed the Muscle
Motivational
speaker Jim Rohn once said, "I find it
fascinating that most people plan their vacations
with better care than they plan their lives.
Perhaps it's because escape is easier than change."
Success
psychologists say that 95% - 97% of the people
in the world do NOT have written goals and fail,
while 3-5% have written goals and succeed.
If
these statistics are correct, then Mr Rohn's
observation really IS quite fascinating isn't
it?
Unfortunately for most people, the odds for
success are actually even lower, because out
of the few people who do set goals, most don't
take goal setting seriously, they don't do it
scientifically and they only do it once a year.
Goal
setting is so important, that I always teach
goal setting and mind dynamics first, and only
THEN, do I teach nutrition and training second.
It
doesn't matter how much you know about nutrition
or exercise. Until specialized fitness knowledge
is linked with goals and directions, the knowledge
is useless and you won't accomplish very much
or keep the changes long term.
In
fact, I devoted the entire first chapter of
my book, Burn
the Fat, Feed the Muscle to the subject
of goals and constructive "mind programming"
for successful, permanent behavior change.
I've
also studied neuro linguistic programming (NLP)
for many years and more recently spent many
months researching the latest information about
neuroscience to see just how much of the traditional
self help and goal setting wisdom is actually
backed by brain research.
As
you start thinking about your goals for 2007
right now, I'd like to help you start the year
off right by sharing two very valuable, science
based tips on acheiving your goals...
